Summary:
The episode begins with Agent Mahone and other FBI agents investigating an exploded, upturned car. The agent standing beside Mahone comments on how sad it was that one of the fugitives had died so quickly since they had just broken out of prison and asks Mahone, “So which one of them was it?”

Twelve hours earlier, at the FBI field office in Chicago, Agent Mahone is told by one of his agents, Agent Lang, that all the hospitals and the fugitives’ families are under surveillance but so far, none of the fugitives have been seen. After asking for Agent Lang’s surname, Mahone informs her that a man on the run will make a mistake in the first 72 hours post-escape.

An agent brings in a backpack that the police got from a vagrant. In the backpack were items that included cell phones and the fake passports of Michael and Lincoln. Agent Mahone promptly tells the agents that Michael had made his first mistake. He then interrogates the man who stole the backpack from Michael’s car, asking him what the car looked like. The vagrant tells him that it was grey, parked “15th somewhere”, and was towed soon after he stole the bag.

Michael and Lincoln show up at Nika Volek’s apartment unannounced. Michael barks orders to her to get some rubbing alcohol, towels, cayenne pepper and an alcoholic beverage (for drinking) to dull Lincoln’s pain. Nika is distressed at Michael and Lincoln’s presence at her home since the police had been there. After apologizing to Nika and asking her for some clean clothes for Lincoln, Michael leaves to retrieve their car. When Lincoln tells him to forget about the car, Michael tells him that he doesn’t need a car, but that car because that car contains everything they need to disappear. However, when Michael returns to the place where he parked his car, all he could find was shattered glass.

Michael finds the place where his car was towed to and when he is asked to fill in the paperwork, the phone of the towing company rings. It is Mahone. Mahone asks Chuck, who was the employee attending to Michael, if he had seen a man asking for a grey Honda Accord with a busted side window. Chuck nervously and cryptically replies, “Yes, sir…” as Michael watches him. When Chuck turns around while speaking to Mahone, Michael grabs the keys from the counter, and is able to reacquire the vehicle before Mahone’s police units can arrive.

While Sara is being released from the hospital, she recognises the nurse who is cutting off her nametag. The nurse tells Sara that she was the attending physician when she first started there. As Sara signs her release forms, the police come and inform her of her arrest. She is handcuffed and led out by two police officers, passing by Agent Kellerman who is watching them as he tells “Caroline” that he’ll keep an eye on Sara. Governor Tancredi pays his daughter’s bail and meets his daughter at an interrogation room. He orders her to go to daily Narcotics Anonymous meetings and to place the blame of the escape incident on Warden Henry Pope. Before his departure, Governor Tancredi informs Sara that he will be sworn in as the Vice President of the United States in a week’s time and that while she will be invited to his inauguration, she will not attend.

Bellick goes to a convenience store and while trying to buy beer and teriyaki jerky, sees his nemesis Geary working his new security guard job. They fight in the store, drink beer together, and Bellick becomes a bounty hunter and teams up with Geary after interrogating Manche Sanchez.

After hotwiring a vintage Chevrolet El Camino pickup in Defiance, Ohio and escaping a Pennsylvania State Trooper in Latrobe, Pennsylvania by climbing aboard a passing cargo train, Sucre arrives in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York, and discovers that Maricruz is getting married in Las Vegas and takes his friend’s motorcycle, a 1952 Ural.

C-Note makes a phone call to his scared and reluctant wife, telling her he’ll be waiting in the “Rainbow Room” in the spot where they “took that beautiful picture.” Mahone’s team has a wiretap on the phone call and Agent Lang assumes that C-Note is referring to the Rainbow Room restaurant in Manhattan, New York and has C-Note’s mugshots sent there. Later on, C-Note visits his daughter at recess and tells her to relay a message to her mom to turn on the porch light at 7pm if she plans to meet him. When he comes by the house, he hides across the street for a few minutes before his wife decides to turn on the porch light. The “Rainbow Room” is actually their daughter’s bedroom, and the picture is a photograph hung on the wall next to the window. After turning on the porch light, his wife sits down to an interview with Agent Lang.

Michael and Lincoln take off from Nika’s home in their car and make a turn when they reach Illinois Route 38. This is indicated in the tattoo on Michael’s wrist which reads “38 12 1037″ in the form of a barcode, where “38″ referred to Route 38. After turning into Route 38, Michael resets the mileage counter. When the counter reaches 12, Michael stops in the middle of a bridge. “12″ referred to the number of miles that it took to reach the bridge. Meanwhile, Agents Mahone and Wheeler track Michael and Lincoln’s whereabouts through their cell phone. They noticed that they suddenly stopped, and speculate that they may be meeting someone there.

Unscrewing one part of the railings on the bridge, Michael and Lincoln stage a car accident after turning on the car radio and set it to “scan” so that when it reaches the frequency “103.7″ (the last four numbers of the tattoo), it will trigger the bomb to explode. At the nick of time, just before Mahone and Wheeler arrive, the car explodes along with false corpses placed in the front seats of Michael’s Honda Accord. The song the radio was playing before the car exploded was “Hush” by Deep Purple.

As Mahone stares at the remnants of the explosion, the agent next to him asks, “So which one of them was it?” Mahone replies, “Shales… Scofield, maybe Scofield.” After Mahone walks off, Wheeler tells the agent that Oscar Shales was a fugitive that Mahone had never recaptured. Mahone grows more distressed and swallows some pills from his pen.

Nika arrives with her car and gives Michael her car keys. Michael thanks Nika and promises to pay her $10,000 once he and his brother reach Mexico plus $30,000 for the car. When Nika asks Michael if he is going to meet up with Sara, he says he doesn’t know and hands the car keys to Lincoln, who proceeds to take care of the driving. They are spotted by Bellick and Geary as they’re leaving.

Summary:

Special Agent Mahone sits in his backyard as he talks to Agent Ives about the security of the Canadian and Mexican borders.

Michael sits on a park bench as he reads the newspaper which has “Manhunt For Fox River Eight” on the front page. He then spies a man walking by, unloading boxes of food from his car. Michael steals one of the man’s picnic baskets and returns to the hiding place where Lincoln, Sucre, C-Note and Abruzzi are anxiously waiting for him. After they finish eating, Michael tells Sucre, C-Note and Abruzzi that they are parting ways. He gives Sucre and C-Note some money, and a dollar to Abruzzi, so that he may phone his Mafia friends to collect him.

After reading the article about LJ’s court hearing, Lincoln becomes fixated on getting his son out. Although Michael does not think it is a good idea, he finally relents and tells Lincoln to tell him everything about the Cook County Courthouse where LJ is being held. They head off to find Michael’s parked car. Lincoln calls LJ, who has been interrogated by Mahone, and tells him that, “On the third, look out for Otis Wright. Until then keep your head up.” However, the message is tapped by Mahone. LJ relays that he was talking to his attorney, Nick Savrinn. Not believing him, Mahone then tells LJ that Nick has been found dead in his apartment and asks what the coded message means. He threatens LJ again with a prison sentence.

At a train station in St. Louis, Missouri, Tweener cuts his hair and proceeds to buy a ticket to Utah. However, he becomes increasingly paranoid about being caught as he waits and finally leaves without making his purchase. After changing into a stolen St. Louis Tech sweatshirt, Tweener wanders through St. Louis Tech’s campus and finds a college student by the name of Debra Jean Belle, who grows suspicious of him, to give him a ride to Utah. Meanwhile, T-Bag’s left hand is reattached (without the use of any anaesthetics) with the help of Dr. Marvin Gudat, who is killed by T-Bag soon afterwards, via injection. He gets in Gudat’s Jeep Grand Cherokee heading to Utah after stealing Gudat’s clothes, bleaching his hair, and asking directions from the vehicle’s onboard navigation hotline (reminicient of OnStar).

C.O. Bellick and Warden Pope report to the Illinois Department of Corrections headquarters following their unsuccessful attempts to capture the escapees. Geary, who has earlier been dismissed by Pope, confirms to the D.O.C. Committee that Bellick sold the Prison Industries to John Abruzzi. The D.O.C. Committee finally makes a decision to suspend Warden Pope for the prison escape and to discharge Bellick for unlawful dealing with prison convicts. Pope angrily states that Michael Scofield is the only one responsible for the escape and immediately resigns from his position as a sign of support for his subordinate Bellick.

Pope returns to his office and as he packs his things, he is reminded of the betrayal by Michael. Pope then proceeds to aggressively destroy the Taj Mahal model that Michael helped him build for his wife as an anniversary gift. Bellick sits on his bed and contemplates, and nearly attempts suicide. He lowers his shotgun when his mother tells him about the cash reward for the return of the escapees - $300,000 for Lincoln Burrows and $100,000 each for the other seven fugitives.

As Michael finds what he needs in a hardware shop, Lincoln waits outside and is noticed by a woman walking her dog. She recognizes him and hails a police car as Lincoln goes inside the shop. Lincoln pulls Michael out as the police officer enters the shop. More police arrive, making it impossible for Lincoln and Michael to return to the car. Michael is reluctant to leave as their fake passports and other things are still inside the car. They go to the courthouse and reach the roof of the courthouse via a fire escape stairwell on the side of the building to get into the elevator shaft. As Mahone, LJ and his guard wait for the elevator, LJ suddenly breaks the code his father left for him. “On the third” refers to the third floor of the courthouse, which LJ is currently on, and “Otis Right” refers to the right-side elevator made by Otis Manufacturing. Michael and Lincoln’s impromptu break-out plan turns sour when Mahone also deciphers the clue left by Lincoln at literally the last second, and escorts LJ in the elevator personally. Michael and Lincoln appear from the ceiling, but are unable to pull LJ out with Mahone anchoring him down. Once Lincoln drops his weapon, Mahone kicks the alarm button. LJ tells his father to let go, and is pulled away by Mahone. Sprinting away from the police, Michael and Lincoln board an idle delivery truck, but Lincoln sustains a gunshot wound to his leg. In the meantime, a guard (Kelly O’Neil Jackson) verbally confirms to LJ that he is to be sent to a detention center in Kingman, Arizona.

Summary:
The second season opens the morning after the escape, as Michael, Lincoln, Abruzzi, C-Note and Sucre barely manage — with the help of a freight train — to elude Captain Bellick. When FBI Special Agent Alexander Mahone is assigned to lead a nationwide search for the escapees, this makes their escape even more difficult. Mahone calls a press conference, and urges everybody watching the television broadcast to find the “Fox River 8″.

In the meantime, Michael, Lincoln, Abruzzi, C-Note, and Sucre are found by a hunter, and held at bay when the hunter brandishes his rifle. Abruzzi holds the hunter’s young daughter hostage at gunpoint, and is able to get the hunter to drop his weapon, and give Michael the keys to his Jeep Grand Cherokee. The five escapees board the SUV, presumably en route to a storage room where Michael has some items ready.

Agent Mahone and Captain Bellick use Michael’s credit card invoices to find a storage room in Oswego, and each separately rush to the storage facility. It turns out to be a ruse of Michael’s, as he is seen in a cemetery storage room, gathering shovels to unearth the ground at the grave of (R.I.P.) E. Chance Woods. Agent Mahone deciphers the message on Michael’s tattoo (”Ripe Chance Woods”) and arrives at the scene right after the escaped gang of five unearthed Michael’s package and put on a fresh set of clothing. Lincoln took the backpack Michael hid and found the brothers’ fake passports. The five were able to escape to Oswego and blend in, despite being tailed by Agent Mahone.

Elsewhere on the run, T-Bag raids a nearby campground, threatening campers in order to steal a hat and cooler. T-Bag finds the veterinary clinic of Dr. Marvin Gudat, and coerces him to reattach his left hand without the use of anesthesia.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sara Tancredi recovers from her drug overdose. She is interrogated by an FBI agent, who tells her that 7 more prisoners had escaped with Michael. After Nurse Katie’s visit, Sara finds an origami swan inside her purse. Inside is a message “There’s a plan to make all of this right”, and a dotted code. The dot code on the origami swan that Sara found can be grouped into lines of numbers. The numbers are 3221243324 for the first line, 4221312231 for the second, and 23133121 for the third.

Veronica discovers yet another secret from Terrence Steadman, whose previous portrayer John Billingsley has been replaced by Jeff Perry. Steadman is being held captive, although somewhat willingly, inside the estate; the doors are locked from the outside, and the windows are bulletproof. Veronica receives a phone call from Lincoln after calling 911, and informs him of what she has learned. While she is on the phone with Lincoln, members of what appears to be The Company arrive and immediately kill Veronica for finding Terrence Steadman. Hearing the distinctive noise of gunshots after Veronica uttered her final words, Lincoln slips into grief, as his brother Michael consoles him.

Mahone continues to study images of Michael’s tattoos and other elements of his escape plan, saying it will tell him everything about where Michael and the others are going, so he can be there waiting for them when they get there.

Summary:
Michael, Lincoln, Abruzzi, T-Bag, C-Note, Haywire, Sucre, and Tweener have made it outside of Fox River. The convicts make their way to a van at an old mill. Michael breaks the van’s lights so the patrols will not see them. Abruzzi asks Haywire to get the car keys, which are supposedly in a trash can nearby. He then takes the keys out from his pocket, hands them to Lincoln, and they proceed to drive off, leaving Haywire standing there alone. In the van, Abruzzi pulls a gun out from under his seat, but T-Bag moves his hand under his shirt to reveal handcuffs that he had stolen from a guard earlier. T-Bag then handcuffs himself to Michael, ensuring that John cannot shoot him, as he needs Michael to find Fibonacci. Before John can react, T-Bag swallows the key to the handcuffs. Michael and John then warn him of the lengths they will go to get back the key, even gutting it from his body.

Back at Fox River, Pope discovers that the infirmary door was left open, as it showed no sign of being forced or lock-picked. After the orderly tells him that nurse Katie or Dr. Sara Tancredi were the last to leave, Pope suspects one of them of leaving the door open. He questions Dr. Tancredi’s co-worker, nurse Katie, about why the door was unlocked. After Pope threatens her with accessory, Katie reluctantly divulges that “Sara… had a thing for Scofield”. Two miles from the airfield, the van gets stuck in a mud puddle, forcing the prisoners to pile out of the van and make their way towards the airstrip. Michael tells Tweener to leave them, since he has fulfilled his promise of getting Tweener out of the prison.

The group find their way to a barn. When Michael and T-Bag arrive, Lincoln forces the cuffed T-Bag onto the head of a car. Sucre grabs a pair of rusty garden shears, struggling to break the handcuffs. This attempt fails, and T-Bag taunts them saying “Guess it was just meant to be, hey now fellas?” Behind him, John raises an axe over his head and sinks the blade into T-Bag’s wrist. He screams wildly. T-Bag shakes on the ground, his severed hand lying close to his face. The others, stunned, ditch T-Bag in the barn when they hear a farmer coming with his shotgun.

After Tweener is forced to strike out on his own, he runs through the forest until he comes to a road block. He notices a horse trailer and climbs into the back unseen. The road clears, and the truck is headed for St. Louis. Meanwhile, Haywire has taken a bike from a girl as she plays with it in her garage; he rides it down an empty road into the night. T-Bag stumbles through the woods, attempting to follow the others to the airstrip.

The police arrive at Dr. Sara Tancredi’s apartment with an emergency entrance warrant. They find her lying on the couch and immediately report “…possible overdose. Likely DOA”. Vice President Reynolds is inducted as the next President, after President Richard Mills dies of a “cardiac arrest”. Reynolds was involved in poisoning him. Veronica arrives at Blackfoot, Montana. She sneaks into the mansion and finds Terrence Steadman dozing in an armchair. She confronts him.

Meanwhile, the police are hot on the prisoners’ trail, and as they make it to the airstrip, the escape plane takes off. Sucre asks Michael “What do we do now?” and Michael firmly says, “We Run.” The season ends with the posse running through a field, with police officers close behind them on foot and in the air.

Summary:
C.O. Mack radios in from the parking lot to inform Pope that Bellick’s truck is parked at the prison. Michael grabs Pope to tell Mack that Bellick is taking some personal time. Michael asks that Lincoln be transferred to the infirmary. Pope radios the request and Michael puts a gag in Pope’s mouth. Michael apologizes as he wheels Pope into a closet. He tells Pope they can find Bellick under the guards’ room, and then knocks him unconscious with the walkie-talkie. Michael closes the doors, turns to the desk and dials out on the phone. He places the receiver on the desk and exits.

Smiling on his way out, Michael innocently tells Becky that Pope is on the phone with the Department of Corrections. He doesn’t want to be disturbed. Becky nods her understanding and tells Michael, “I hope he’s told you how highly he thinks of you. There’s no way he would have finished the Taj Mahal in time for their anniversary without your help.” Michael turns to leave.

Bellick, still hidden underground, continues to furiously rake his restraints against the jagged bolt.

Michael walks back into his cell. Sucre waits nervously on his bunk. Michael checks his watch, five minutes until tier-time and then an hour to get as far away from Fox River as they can. Westmoreland puts the case for his glasses in his mouth as he cleans his bleeding wound. He puts a clean sock on the wound, the pain making every movement excruciating. Meanwhile, Tweener uses the peroxide on this P.I. jumpsuit to bleach it white. He panics when he sees that there are still blue spots on it. His late start may cost him the chance to get out tonight.

C-Note hops off his bunk and sees Trumpets (Anthony Fleming) watching him closely. Trumpets slides his thumb across his neck, showing his intentions for C-Note. Sucre vomits into the toilet, revealing to Michael that he is scared. The cells doors slide open and Michael tells Sucre as he hands Sucre the bolt, “There’s no going back now.”

The inmates shuffle out of their cells. Michael and Sucre stay close to their cell door. Abruzzi is the first to arrive, and hands Sucre his white jumpsuit. Sucre stashes it under the bed. The rest of the team arrives, each con working to appear casual while also aware of the time constraints. C-Note hovers over the railing knowing that Trumpets is after him. Tweener arrives and passes his suit to Sucre. Angry about the conspicuous blue spots remaining on the garment, Sucre throws Tweener’s suit under the mattress. Michael asks them to block the door so he can finish unhooking the toilet.

As Trumpets moves to enter Michael’s cell, Abruzzi cuts him off, casually telling him he hasn’t seen C-Note. Trumpets insists on going in. Abruzzi steps aside and lets him enter the cell. Michael sits on the bottom bunk and looks up at Trumpets. “Something you need?” he asks. Trumpets looks under the bed, but C-Note is nowhere in sight. Behind the wall, C-Note sits quietly.

Bellick finally cuts through the restraints that tie his hands and feet together. He hears voices from above. C.O. Mack and C.O. Patterson fill their coffee cups in the break room above him. Bellick tries to cry out but he’s muffled by the tape across his mouth and the carpeted floor above him.

Nick sits across from Veronica, his gun on the coffee table between them. As the realization sinks in that Nick has been lying to her all this time, Nick justifies his actions. He explains that he was working to prove Lincoln was innocent and that Abruzzi’s men approached him after he took up the case. In exchange for watching her, Abruzzi’s people had someone already doing life in prison confess to the murder that his father was accused of. Nick tells her that no one is going to get hurt in this as long as Michael gives up Fibonacci’s location. Veronica is stunned at Nick’s naiveté, given all they’ve gone through. Nick’s cell phone rings. He grabs the gun and forces Veronica to her feet.

As Westmoreland climbs through the wall, Michael hands him a white. Sucre drops a sheet across the cell door to provide cover as the rest of the team follows. Michael puts a bottle of foot powder into his pocket as Sucre asks him about the key to the infirmary. Michael is unsure. Meanwhile, Sara stands along Lake Michigan, the weight of Michael’s request on her mind.

The other cons have moved a shelf in the boiler room to reveal the hole Michael started during the riots. Michael tells them that they’re ten minutes behind. He jumps into the wall and the other inmates follow. Michael moves through the now-familiar tunnels. Suddenly the pipes fill with Bellick’s cries for help. Michael halts and listens for a moment as Bellick yells again. This time the guards notice a sound coming from the guard’s room.

T-Bag rushes up behind Bellick and clamps his hand over Bellick’s mouth as Mack and Patterson enter the room above them. T-Bag holds a blade close to Bellick’s face and they wait. Mack and Patterson look around the Guard Room. They don’t see anyone. Mack swears he heard something, but the guards return to their rounds. Michael tells T-Bag he needs Bellick’s hat and jacket. T-Bag drags Bellick through the pipes.

Tancredi sits in her car, collecting her thoughts. When she steps out, she’s at Fox River. Meanwhile Veronica begs for her life in Nick’s car. Nick repeats his mantra that she’ll be fine as long as Michael tells them what they need to hear. Nick forces himself to move on and pulls a pillowcase over her head.

Where the underground pipes meet, Bellick is on his knees while the cons wait for Michael to get his uniform. The venom in Bellick’s voice is palpable as he observes, “Brains of the outfit, huh Scofield? He’s leading you off a cliff boys,” Bellick’s eyes grow wide when he sees Tweener emerge from the pipe. Bellick locks eyes with him. He’s about to tell the cons that Tweener betrayed them, but Tweener punches him and forces the duct tape back into Bellick’s mouth. Michael orders the men to put on their bleached coveralls and that he’ll be back in a moment.

Michael walks through the prison bowels until he finds a small utility box. He takes a handful of the foot powder from his pocket and blows it on the keys. When he leans in, he sees the powder has stuck to keys 1, 3, 5, and 8. Michael presses the numbers at random and between each sequence watches to see if the red light above the box will turn green. Each combination he tries doesn’t seem to work.

Westmoreland moves his hand over his jacket; he’s bleeding through his clothes. C-Note notices but says nothing.

Far from Fox River, two men sit at a conference table discussing the fate of Vice President Reynolds. Samantha Brinker steps in, offering her opinion of the Vice President. The only thing she desires is to become President. Without that, she has nothing to lose, and if they try and take her down, she might come clean on everything and everyone.

Tancredi walks down the infirmary hallway and the elevator opens. Lincoln is marched past Tancredi into the examining rooms. Tancredi’s face registers what this means; it’s happening tonight. She unlocks her office door and walks in. When she looks up, she looks at the vials of morphine across the room.

At Pope’s office, Becky looks at the phone on her desk. Warden Pope’s line is still lit.

The escapees become anxious and suddenly an alarm goes off across the yard. The cons look up, even more worried. Michael returns and reveals that he has set off the fire alarm at the psych ward. The inmates from Psych Ward filter out into the dark yard. Michael peeks up as a herd of white jumpsuits draws near.

A jet plane lands and taxis onto a remote airstrip. The pilot steps out with Maggio, saying, “We’re in the sticks. You know how many people must have heard a jet like this land?” Maggio isn’t concerned and holds a police scanner close to him.

A Psych Ward orderly walks out and tells the inmates that it was a false alarm and guides them in back inside. When the inmates are far enough away from the grate, Michael and the cons climb out and follow. What they don’t know is that someone else is watching them from a distance.

Michael leads the men into Psych Ward, “Hold up!” he barks to Sklar (Andrew Rothenberg), the orderly who mans the front desk, “Got some stragglers.” The cons slide through the doors. Sklar singles out Tweener, whose uniform still betrays the blue of the PI unit. “Wait a second. That ain’t whack shack-issued.” Michael plays the role of C.O., ordering everyone to stay put. Sklar pulls Michael aside and whispers, “That’s John Abruzzi right there.” Michael agrees, feigns cooperation and asks Sklar if he has any sedative he can use to put John down. Sklar hands Michael a syringe who turns to Abruzzi, but instead sinks the needle into Sklar’s neck; he collapses on the floor. The cons take off down the hall.

Veronica begs Nick to stop. He pulls the car over and yanks the pillowcase off her head. He tells her that she needs to get to the airport and go to Blackfoot. He puts her in a cab, and as the cab pulls away, Nick contacts his father to meet him at his apartment.

In the Psych Ward basement, the cons open the access hatch and drop into the tunnels that will lead them to the infirmary. Michael stops Tweener as the other cons climb down. Michael, calmly but intensely, tells Tweener he knows that he told Bellick about the hole. He makes it clear that once they’re on the outside Tweener will go his own way. The men rush down the concrete tunnel, but Westmoreland drags behind. C-Note notices and doubles back. “Look, maybe it’s not worth it if it’s going to kill you,” he tells him. Westmoreland insists that he’s fine. Again, someone stands nearby them, invisible, but closely following.

Tancredi hurries to leave the infirmary. Nurse Katie catches her on the way out and tells her about the fire alarm from Psych Ward. When she tries to continue the conversation, Tancredi just lowers her head and hurries out.

Vice President Reynolds throws her drink glass into the fireplace. Agent Kellerman thinks she’s overacting to the news that she was uninvited to a literacy fundraiser. The Vice President believes the Company is giving up on her and thinks she’s no longer their candidate. Kellerman disagrees, thinking instead that the Company is doing this to test her and she needs to be strong.

Charging in the front door of his apartment, Nick calls for his father. Nick’s father enters the living room followed by the man in the trench coat who spoke with Nick at the cell phone store. The man stands confidently, a gun in his hand. The man in the trench coat asks Nick where Veronica is. When Nick refuses to cooperate, the man fires a single shot and his father collapses. He shoots Nick in the shoulder and asks once more. Nick laughs and says that Veronica is nowhere near here. The man fires his gun directly at Nick.

Now in the infirmary building, Michael and the escape team cautiously move towards the infirmary. They then find Lincoln and force the guard to release him from his handcuffs. T-bag knocks the C.O. and notices the handcuffs locked to the table. The cons move through the halls to the infirmary door. Michael’s shoulders tense as he reaches out and grabs the doorknob. Michael turns to the gang, then turns the knob. Michael smiles, “We’re in.”

Tancredi sits in her car devastated about what she’s just done.

Becky looks over at Pope’s line again. Too concerned not to, she reaches for the phone, but has second thoughts. She hesitates, presses the intercom button and hears the call. A voice on the line announces, “Welcome to Joke Line! Just $2.99 a minute!” Becky knocks on the Warden’s office door and walks in. She looks around the office but doesn’t see him. Becky and C.O. Stolte walk into Pope’s office. She tells Stolte that she is certain she didn’t see Pope walk out.

The cons move into action and proceed to get the bars off the window. They tie a fire hose around it and attempt to send an elevator down in order to tighten the hose tension and rip the bars off, however the elevator refuses to move by itself. Tweener steps into the elevator and presses the button, knowing that he may not be able to come back up. The bars fly off and Tweener re-emerges from the elevator, successful. The cons remove their white jumpsuits and hand them to Michael. Michael looks up and sees an unwelcome guest. Haywire creeps in with a C.O. radio in his hands. Michael tries to keep Haywire calm and Haywire demands to be part of the escape or he’s calling for the guards. Lincoln doesn’t hesitate: Haywire is in. They need to move.

Lincoln climbs out the window and grabs the thick cable leading from the infirmary to the far wall. Abruzzi piles the jumpsuits on Lincoln’s upside-down body. Lincoln makes it to the barbed wire lined wall. Lincoln throws the jumpsuits on the barbed wire, creating a gap. He signals Abruzzi who climbs out and begins to cross. Once on the other side, Abruzzi shimmies down a pipe and to the street below.

Westmoreland gasps and collapses to the floor. Michael and C-Note rush to his aid. C-Note pulls up his sweatshirt to reveal the wound. Michael tells him he only has a short way to go before he’s out. Westmoreland’s face is white as he clings to life. As the inmates continue their escape, Westmoreland makes Michael promise to take care of his daughter once he’s over the wall and Michael promises. Westmoreland reveals where he buried the money but says that the government were embarrassed about how much money they had stolen and under-reported the figure to the media. He reveals that the amount he escaped with was not $1.5 million, but $5 million. C-Note, Michael, T-Bag, Tweener and Manche listen intently.

Michael clenches Westmoreland’s hand, “Give Anna her Poppa’s love.” Michael smiles and says he will. T-Bag, meanwhile, grabs the cable, and starts his climb. Michael helps Charles be more comfortable as C-Note’s turn comes up and he goes out the window.

Stolte asks another C.O. guarding the hallway if he saw Pope leave. The C.O. says no and that he’d know - he hasn’t left his post since he punched in. Becky walks into the Warden’s office again, followed by C.O.s Stolte, Patterson and Mack. They’ve checked the prison; Pope isn’t anywhere to be found. Patterson suggests trying Pope’s cell. Becky, phone to her ear, stands silent. Suddenly, they hear the quiet chirping of a cell phone from inside the office. They turn and follow the sound: the closet. Becky opens the doors and gasps as the C.O.s call for backup. Becky removes the gag and Pope mumbles out, “Sound the alarm!”

Manche tells Michael that they need to go. Westmoreland gives his last piece of advice to Michael - “don’t look back”. Manche, seeing the fragile cable, sends Michael ahead. Once Michael grabs it, alarms and spotlights fire up across the prison. Lincoln calls for his brother to hurry. Manche watches nervously from the window, but can’t wait any longer. He grabs the cable and climbs out. With only inches to freedom for Michael, the cable tears free from the wall under Manche’s weight. Michael crashes against the wall, Manche lands in the yard. Lincoln reaches down to grab his brother’s hand but can’t reach it.

Manche stands and rolls towards the wall. Several guards charge towards him with their shotguns poised. After securing Manche, one of the C.O.s notices the cable. He looks up to the see the white jumpsuits across the razor wire. Michael is gone. He had made it over.

Summary:
The episode opens where The Key had finished, with Bellick gaping down the hole. As Bellick realizes the significance of what he has just discovered and stands to alert others, a shovel comes into frame and hits Bellick in the head. Westmoreland is shown to be the attacker. This initial attack fails to knock Bellick out and so they tussle. Westmoreland manages to eventually render Bellick unconscious with a metal thermos, but not before he falls on a shard of glass - part of a smashed coffee pot. Westmoreland pulls it out in obvious pain while gazing upon Bellick’s still form.

Out in the yard the rest of the escapees are plotting the breakout for a few days time. T-Bag notices scent dogs, which happen to be walking by. He advices that the convicts should get rid of their scents, in an effort to lose the dogs if they’re going to stand a chance in escaping. Michael agrees and advises scrubbing down their cells. T-Bag chimes in with, “Either get rid of your smell, or change it.” As they conspire, the bleeding Westmoreland, hauling a trash bin emerges from the officer break room. As Westmoreland approaches, it becomes evident that a spanner is to be thrown in the works. He exclaims urgently “We gotta get outta here, now!”

Back in the yard, the escapees are questioning Westmoreland. He explains what just happened in the officers’ mess hall, and that he covered the hole as best he could after binding and gagging an unconscious Bellick and placing him down the hole. C-Note points out that sooner or later (and most likely, sooner) other guards will notice that Bellick is missing. Abruzzi stipulates that once that happens, the prison will be shut down until he’s found and no one will be going anywhere. So Michael announces that the escape must be moved forward to tonight. Abruzzi is ordered to get the plane ready, and C-Note to steal as much peroxide as possible from the kitchen. The time of the breakout is set at 7 o’clock, but now that the entry point in the officers’ mess is compromised, the escape will take place from Michael’s cell.

On the outside, Veronica is on the phone, trying to acquire information on the Montana Mansion. She learns that it was purchased by a trust set up by Steadman’s estate. Veronica tells Nick to pack for Montana, so that they can check it out in person.

Down in the hole, a bound-and-gagged Bellick awakens and displays confusion and understandable frustration at his new found predicament. Meanwhile in the prisoner mess hall, Michael overhears two guards commenting quizzically on Bellick’s absence, while T-Bag goes from con to con, collecting unwanted brussel sprouts.

Sara meets Michael in the infirmary for their daily checkup and, after last episode’s cat and mouse game is stone cold when he tries talking to her. She brings up the keys and instructs him to be a man and admit it. When he does admit to stealing the keys she asks what it was that he was after. Assuming a much lesser reason than an elaborate escape plan, she quizzes whether he was after drugs or needles. Scofield finally admits to his plan to break his brother out of Fox River. In shock, she warns him not to say anything else. She reminds him she’s required to report this information. Michael replies that he knows, but brings up Lincoln’s innocence. He doesn’t want her to break the law, but rather make a mistake and “forget” to lock up when she leaves that evening. Sara doesn’t answer, but asks if his feelings towards her were all an act. Michael admits to that being the case initially, but that his feelings changed and that it is killing him to know that she will never believe that. She doesn’t know what to say, and so leaves angry and confused.

Abruzzi calls one of his thugs and informs him that tonight is the night of the escape. They discuss specifics and the henchman brings up the size of the plane, as it seats only three. Abruzzi replies that that is all they need - that the seats will be for “the three who’re still breathing”.

In the locker room after PI, Michael tells the Escapees to put their prison blues on over their PI jumpsuits. C-Note urgently tells Michael to shut up, pointing out Tweener who is on PI with the escapees. Michael drops the bomb that Tweener is coming with them. Everyone protests, but Michael claims that he owes Tweener. As they head back to General Population a guard stops them, asking about the blood he saw on the floor. Although it is actually due to Westmoreland’s gaping wound, which he has not informed anyone about yet, Michael slices his thumb on a shank in his pocket and claims that the blood was his. After they’re dismissed, Michael asks Westmoreland if he’s all right and Westmoreland insists that he’ll make it out tonight.

In Pope’s office, the warden is excited about his anniversary tonight. As Michael puts the finishing touches on the model Taj Majal, Pope once again thanks Scofield for everything and offers that if there’s anything he can do for him.

Cut to Michael in Lincoln’s solitary cell, with Lincoln informing his younger brother about their newfound family history, as Michael checks out the structural highlights of the cell. He tells Linc that they need to go tonight, then mumbles to himself about the chains and pressure points within the cell. Lincoln snaps Michael out of his engineering trance and orders Michael to leave without him, resigned to his fate on the electric chair.

In a bar in Chicago, Sara is staring at her drink when, courtesy of the TV news in the bar she hears that her father is on the short list for the Vice Presidency. Realising that there may be some truth to the existence of a conspiracy, Dr. Tancredi leaves the bar and her drink untouched.

T-Bag mashes brussel sprouts all over his bunk. Abruzzi does the same with his fertilizer, which upsets his cell mate, to which Abruzzi exclaims that he is only “following the wishes of God”. Westmoreland is shown scrubbing his wall and Tweener is pictured staring into nothing. His cell opens and a guard enters, informing Tweener that his cellmate has been discharged from the infirmary, and will be re-joining general population tonight. He then asks Tweener if he had seen Bellick that morning. Tweener spies Michael pacing in his cell and denies having seen Bellick, stating that he must have seen Bellick the day before and was just confused due to prison being one big blur.

Michael’s cell. Sucre dumps the peroxide from C-Note in the toilet and starts bleaching their PI jumpsuits so that they’ll match the white psychiatric ward jumpsuits. The other escapees are doing the same in their respective cells.

Two guards are helping Pope to carry out the model Taj Majal. The top topples off and breaks in half. Pope panics and instructs a guard to get Michael back immediately.

The jumpsuits are done bleaching. Michael tells Sucre to dry them out when a guard comes to retrieve Michael. The Escapees see Michael on his way to the Pope and wonder what the hell’s going on.

Bellick’s still struggling in the Hole but manages to catch the rope tying his hands behind his back on a jagged piece of metal. Meanwhile the on-duty guards decide that Bellick’s disappearance is serious enough to tell the warden about.

Sara finds her father at a restaurant, and asks him if he even looked at the information she gave him concerning Lincoln’s innocence. He refuses to answer so she continues to press him and he finally admits that he didn’t see a need to look at it. She is clearly hurt and out of spite asks if he was promised the vice-presidency before or after he signed Burrows’ death warrant. The governor becomes defensive and states that he will not discuss morality with an “addict and a thief.” He says she had no trouble with him bending the law to get her and her junkie boyfriends out of trouble on various occasions. He tells her to “grow up” before storming off.

Veronica’s getting ready to go to the airport so as to fly to Montana, when Nick pulls a gun on her. She is shocked at the betrayal of her supposed friend and colleague, and asks him who’s holding his leash. She tells him to look her in the eyes, and when he cannot she calls him a coward.

Pope has been informed of Bellick’s disappearance, and is chatting with his mother on the phone. After learning that she spoke with Bellick this morning as he pulled into Fox River, Pope orders the parking lot to be searched for Bellick’s truck. He then admits Michael into his office, who was waiting outside.

A musically backed montage starts, panning through all of the prisoners. Sucre reminisces about Maricruz and thinks about becoming a dad, Abruzzi remembers his short-lived reformation, T-Bag recalls Susan and his threat against her, C-Note thinks about his family, Tweener thinks about his rapist cellmate and bleaches a jumpsuit, Westmoreland thinks about his daughter, checks the bloody hole in his side and re-dresses the wound, while Lincoln relives his failed execution. The final character in the montage is Sara, walking alone in Chicago, mulling over the moral dilemma presented to her while back at Fox River her nurse, Katie locks up the doctor’s examination room.

The final scene shows a clearly distressed Pope explaining what just happened to the model Taj Majal. Michael slaps a small support beam onto the table, to the warden’s confusion. Michael explains that he’s sorry, but he needed to get back in the office. He then pulls a shank from his pocket, exclaiming, “I’m breaking out. And you’re going to make sure my brother goes with me.”

Summary:
A truck smashes into the prison van that Lincoln Burrows was riding in to see his son LJ. Agent Kellerman appears and attempts to suffocate Lincoln. Lincoln is saved by his father who knocks Kellerman out with a fire extinguisher. Lincoln’s father takes him away to an old junkyard where he confides to Lincoln that he used to work for a group of multinationals called “The Company”. The reason Lincoln is framed for murder is because Lincoln’s father leaked information out to the public about Ecofield, Terrence Steadman’s company, so “The Company” set Lincoln up to bring him into the open. Lincoln cannot bring himself to forgive his father after Lisa’s death, Michael and LJ’s incarcerations.

Kellerman hears on the police radio on the whereabouts of Lincoln and arrives at the scene first. Lincoln and his father are about to leave when Kellerman appears. Lincoln’s father goes to scout the area ahead when Kellerman tracks Lincoln down. Lincoln gestures to his father to leave him. The police arrive with Captain Bellick. Immediately, Lincoln shouts to Bellick. Kellerman has no choice but to back down. With a last glance at his son being handcuffed and taken away by Bellick, Lincoln’s father turns and walks away.

John Abruzzi, claiming to have found the Lord while he was away, returns to Fox River where he makes a truce with T-Bag. T-bag later on approaches Abruzzi’s cell intending to kill him, but is disarmed by C-Note, who tells him that Abruzzi is their ticket out of there. Abruzzi contacts Nick Savrinn to remind him about their deal. Nick somewhat turns his back on Veronica Donovan as he answers the phone call.

Tweener reveals to Michael that he stole a Honus Wagner baseball card that is worth $300,000, saying that it looked normal to him but it was valuable. Tweener also wants Michael to kill Avocado (Daniel Allar), who brutally rapes Tweener daily. As Michael refuses and everyone goes back to their cell, Tweener takes out a razor blade from under a mattress and castrates Avocado.

Michael must get the key to the infirmary. As Dr. Tancredi cleans his back wound, he waits for the opportune moment to manipulate her. He asks her to wait for him and tells her that it won’t always be like this then they share a passionate kiss. However Michael cannot bring himself to steal the key from her pocket. Michael enlists the help of his ‘wife’ who meets with Dr. Tancredi and steals the keys. Dr. Tancredi cannot find her keys after coming back from lunch with Nika Volek. She suspects Nika and checks the visitation list - Michael had a visitation from Nika. During Michael’s appointment in the infirmary, she has the lock on the infirmary door changed giving Michael an extremely cold and angry stare. She becomes more cold and suspicious watching his reactions.

Meanwhile, Nick and Veronica discover that the cell phone LJ had picked up from Quinn has been receiving phone calls from other states and nations. They also find out that a common phone number is listed in all the phone records they collected. The phone number points to Blackfoot, Montana.

Tweener pledges his loyalty to Michael but the episode ends with Tweener telling Bellick about the planned escape. Bellick smashes up the floor to discover the hole.

Summary:
Now transferred to psych ward, Michael immediately seeks Haywire out but Haywire does not remember him. His memory is hindered by the medicinal drugs given by the doctors. Michael tries continuously to jog Haywire’s memory. Desperate to retrieve his map, Michael pulls Haywire into an empty room and pokes his finger into Haywire’s throat to make him vomit the pills he just took. He then shows Haywire his tattoo.

Lincoln gets a phone call from Veronica telling him that LJ is being charged with attempted murder and the murders of his mother and step-father. Hearing that LJ is unwilling to cooperate with Veronica, Lincoln pleads with Veronica to petition for him to see his son. Veronica tells him she’ll try but it is highly unlikely that he’ll be let out of prison to see LJ.

Haywire, now regularly vomiting his pills, remembers Michael and the tattoo. He tells Michael that he also remembers that Michael had tricked him. Haywire reproduces the tattoo on a piece of paper and won’t hand it over to Michael until he tells him about the ‘path’. Michael tells him that the escape starts from the basement of the psych ward. Haywire hands his drawing over to Michael. That night, Haywire grabs one of the copies he made of the tattoo and breaks out of his room. However, the minute he opens the door to the basement, the alarm sounds. Haywire turns around stunned and realizes that Michael has tricked him once again. Michael watches from his room with a smile on his face.

Back at the “gen pop”, Captain Bellick and C.O. Geary decide to ‘auction’ off Michael and Sucre’s cell since they were both absent. An interested buyer notices the leaking toilet. Geary assures him that it will be fixed in 24 hours. T-Bag overhears this and immediately tells the others. When C-Note hears that the cell is being auctioned off for $250, he relaxes and tells Geary that he’ll double it. C-Note then has a plan to collect money from his ‘pharmaceutical’ operations recruiting Trumpets and the other African American inmates for help. In a secluded area of the yard, Trumpets cuts C-Note out of the trade and gang due to his association with the P.I. crew, most notably the white supremacist inmate T-Bag. C-Note refuses a chance to walk away unhurt punching Trumpets and is then assaulted by the other African American inmates by socks filled with batteries failing to collect his money in the process.

As their last resort, T-Bag mentions that they could enter the “kitchen game” to raise enough money to buy the cell. Reluctantly, C-Note and T-bag team up to fix a card game knowing the consequences of cheating. T-Bag slips up in a deal by accidentally dealing C-Note’s specially placed card face up. According to rules, T-Bag cannot redeal and must give C-Note another card. C-Note must win this hand anyway so he chooses to go all in on a bluff. After a risky win, C-Note pays Geary their pre-arranged price of $500. Geary, realizing he could garner a better price for the cell, tells C-Note that the price had gone up. C-Note tells Westmoreland this and diffidently asks for Westmoreland to give up his pocket watch to cover the difference. Westmoreland unwillingly parts with the watch since it holds a huge significance to him. When C-Note hands the watch over to Geary, Geary reveals that he had already sold the cell for $700.

Dr. Tancredi visits Michael after he asked to speak with her. When Michael tells her that both of them know that he doesn’t belong in here. Sara tells him that unless he tells the warden who had burnt his back, the warden is going to put him in solitary and then he will end up coming back here.

In accordance with Manche, Sucre and Lincoln’s plan, Michael tells Warden Pope that a guard named Geary burnt his back. Pope immediately goes to check Geary’s locker. While rifling through, he finds the cash in a boot, and a uniform with a burnt sleeve that was planted in the locker by Westmoreland. Michael’s accusation is not questioned any further, and Geary is subsequently fired. Michael is released from psych ward and is allowed back to general prison population, at which time he returns Charles’ watch, which had been given to him by Warden Pope after finding it in Geary’s locker.

Nick is approached by a man in a phone shop. This man reminds Nick about their deal and warns him that he is obliged to report on the Burrows case and Veronica’s movements. Later on, Nick secretly and reluctantly tells someone on the phone that Veronica is with him and that he has her in his apartment.

After being dismissed by Brinker, Kellerman meets with vice president Reynolds. They agree that Lincoln Burrows must be eliminated. Lincoln is granted special permission to visit his son LJ. Warden Pope tells him he has never heard of the Department of Corrections granting such a request and that this concession has more to it than vigorous petitoning by the Burrows Lawyers. Pope tells him that he will be heavily guarded.

Lincoln is driven from the prison in a prison van, on his way to see LJ. The death row prisoner is savoring the scenery of the passing countryside. As the Prison van approaches an intersection, a huge towing truck is seen speeding towards them. It collides into the side of the van, which is flipped over and heavily damaged. The occupants inside are tossed around and thrown out of the van. The truck speeds away, and the credits roll.

Summary:
After Dr. Sara Tancredi tells Warden Pope about the burnt fragment of a guard’s uniform found in Michael’s burn, Pope questions Michael about it. When he refuses to answer, Michael is sent to the Solitary Housing Unit (SHU), where Lincoln was also being held. Lincoln is worried about Michael’s sanity while Michael has trouble remembering some parts of the prison schematics. While in solitary, Michael appears to have an emotional breakdown. He begins punching the wall repeatedly, fists bleeding, and repeating the words “I put my blood into this.”

The P.I. works in the guard room are coming to an end by surprise. Being the only one who has access to the hole behind the toilet in his cell, Sucre is forced by the other escape team members to conceal the hole in the guard’s break room. He asks T-Bag to get a pair of panties from a crossdresser by offering a sexual favor. T-Bag is reluctant but he gets the panties.

Veronica and Nick use rope to lower LJ into the well where Quinn’s body is to grab Quinn’s cell phone. LJ sees Kellerman’s name etched on the well wall and realizes what part Kellerman played, but doesn’t say anything to Veronica or Nick. Later, they leave LJ in the apartment. LJ uses a quick computer research to find Kellerman’s house. He breaks in while no one is home, but a neighbor woman sees the break in and calls the police. When Kellerman returns home, LJ pulls a gun on him. Kellerman is shot, but not seriously injured. The police arrive and LJ is arrested.

Meanwhile, Sucre manages to conceal the hole but is caught when making his way back to the cell. Bellick interrogates him and when Sucre denies an escape attempt, he demands a reason. After Bellick finds the crossdresser’s panties hidden around Sucre’s ankle, Sucre says they were his girlfriend’s and uses them as his excuse: “She wanted to let me know she’s thinking of me.” He is also thrown into solitary.

Lincoln tells a guard to check on Michael after he stops responding. The guard immediately calls for medical help as Michael is found staring blankly at the wall with bloody fists. He is cleaned up by Sara and put into the psych ward. Michael then snaps out of his disturbed state, revealing it was all a ploy in order to talk to Haywire. Michael asks Haywire to remember the tattoo on his (Michael’s) back because the map had been burned off. Haywire just replies by asking “Who are you?”, revealing that he is apparently back on his medication.

Summary:
Lincoln and Michael

The opening scene shows Lincoln and Michael’s strained relationship and Michael’s bitterness against his brother. After Michael leaves, Lincoln meets a company agent at his old junky apartment and is told that, in order to pay off his debt of $90,000, he has to kill Steadman. However, Lincoln isn’t told that it is Steadman, the Vice President’s brother. Hours later, at the parking lot, as Lincoln attempts to pull the trigger, he realizes the body in the his luxury BMW 760Li Sedan was already shot in the head before he arrived and flees the scene. Lincoln is quickly framed and arrested for the murder. After Lincoln’s arrest, Michael conveys his disappointment about his brother’s behavior. However, Lincoln insists that he never killed Steadman. Michael informs him that everyone thinks that Lincoln has motive to kill him because he was fired from a warehouse owned by Ecofield, the company owned by Steadman.

Veronica Donovan reproaches Michael for misunderstanding his brother and that Lincoln may not be the man Michael thinks he is. She reveals that the $90,000 debt that Lincoln owed was given to Michael, because he thought Michael deserved it. Lincoln had lied to Michael about the money when he gave it to him, saying it was their mother’s life insurance. After being found guilty and sentenced to death, Lincoln is scheduled to be transferred permanently to Fox River where he will be incarcerated until his death. Partly filled with guilt and familial obligation, Michael begins to formulate his intricate plan to break his brother out of Fox River such as remembering the blueprints and getting a tattoo which has hidden symbols of the blueprints and other significant details.

Sucre

On the same night as Terrence Steadman’s “murder”, Sucre meets Maricruz Delgado and falls in love with her. Deciding that he was going to propose to her, he wants to find a way to get an engagement ring. He was arrested when he was caught committing his second robbery at a liquor store. For this reason, Sucre was sent to Fox River. The camera pans out to show that his cousin, Hector Avila, had phoned the police.

T-Bag

T-Bag arrives for dinner at his girlfriend Susan Hollander’s (K. K. Dodds) home with two children. As he teaches the little girl her times tables, his girlfriend sees on America’s Most Wanted that T-Bag is wanted for 40 counts of kidnapping, rape, and first degree murder. He is sent to Fox River after his girlfriend turned him in. During a later visit with Susan in prison, T-Bag reveals to her that he felt ‘real love’ for her in prison and that he had tried to change and repent for his actions; however, his turn to prison had caused “that old dirty bastard [to come] right back home.”

C-Note

C-Note was dishonorably discharged from the army by his commander after he filed a report of injustice against another soldier who was torturing a prisoner. The commander had him discharged for black market dealings. After coming home, C-Note could not find employment. He reluctantly accepts a job suggested to him by his brother-in-law, that involved illegal activities. He was arrested after driving a truck loaded with illegal goods. With his impending imprisonment, C-Note lies to his wife about serving overseas again. C-Note tells his brother-in-law that he should take good care of his wife and daughter. He emphasises that he does not want them to know that he is going to be incarcerated in prison.

Sara

Dr. Sara Tancredi is first shown injecting herself with morphine from the hospital. After work, she walks on the street in a residential neighborhood with her boyfriend. Suddenly, a boy is hit by a car. When Sara approaches the boy, another witness asks for her help after noticing her hospital staff ID but Sara was unable to help him because she was impaired by the drugs. This incident haunted her. 18 months later, at a meeting for former drug users, Dr. Tancredi reveals to the other ex-addicts that the best thing for her rehabilitation is to go back to work, and that she had never been happier; she felt joy. After the meeting, Bellick, who was also attending, goes up to Dr. Tancredi and awkwardly asks her out by saying that there was a job opening at Fox River State Penitentiary, where he works, and that they can talk about it over dinner. Sara politely declines his offer and thanks him for letting her know about the job, subtly conveying her interest.

Reynolds and Kellerman

As Lincoln runs from the parking garage, Kellerman and Hale are filming the whole thing. Later, Kellerman supervises a tech who doctors the tape to make it look like Lincoln is the shooter. Kellerman and the Vice President then discuss the purchase of a secluded mansion in Blackfoot, Montana for 2 million dollars. We learn that Kellerman is very affectionate towards Reynolds. She tells Kellerman to use the money left for her in her brother’s will because she is cleaning up his mess. Vice President Reynolds then relays the fact this secluded mansion is bought for herself and “someone else”. At the newly purchased mansion, she tells this “person” that Lincoln will be finished. This “person” puts on his false teeth, turns around and says, “My dear sister, you have no idea what I’ve been through”. The person turns out to be Terrance Steadman, living alone.

The episode finishes off with a final shot of Michael hesitantly reaching for the two guns that he will use to rob the bank.
