Summary:
Lincoln’s execution does not go as planned; everything is ready to go as he is strapped to the electric chair, but the warden receives instructions from the judge that the case is to be delayed two weeks. Someone slipped autopsy files into the judge’s office, claiming that the body of Terrence Steadman, who Lincoln supposedly killed, was someone else. Two files were sent to the judge at the last moment: one an autopsy report of the deceased noting he had a healthy appendix; the other a report that the deceased had had his appendix removed.

Due to the inherent contradiction, the judge orders a reprieve while the evidence is re-examined. However, upon re-examination, it is revealed that the teeth taken from the body that was dug out from Terrence Steadman’s grave matched the dental records of Terrence Steadman.

Moments before the execution was to take place, Lincoln saw someone resembling his father watching the execution from behind a window as a guard covers his head. Confused over whether or not he really saw his father, Lincoln asks the warden who the man in the viewing room was. The warden responds, “He’s from the Headline Press… William Prall.” Lincoln later has a dream and wakes up remembering that Prall was his father’s favorite baseball player and realizes that the man in the viewing room was his father.

Now with the two week extension, Michael reforms his escape plan. However, this time it requires the team to go through the psych ward. The biggest flaw of the plan was that he had to go above ground part of the way. They all agree it’s suicide. Regardless, Michael obtains a guard’s uniform from his cellmate’s cousin who works in the laundry department and proceeds to explore these pipes at night.

After Michael returns from scouting through the pipes, he hides from a prison guard walking nearby. Leaning backwards, Michael connects his back with a hot water pipe and burns a part of his back. Although he made no sound during the burning, the uniform now has a hole in it. Returning to his cell, Michael forces Sucre to rip the uniform from his back. Michael is rendered unconscious by the pain. As the warden questions Sucre’s involvement in Michael’s burnt back, Sara also inquires Michael as to how he got that burn. Both are unsuccessful at getting an answer.

Meanwhile, Agents Kellerman and Brinker examine the security footage from outside the judge’s office, trying to find out who had dropped off the evidence anonymously. The man is careful not to be seen by the security cameras, however, a reflection of his face appears on the judge’s door. Brinker recognizes the man.

The episode concludes with Dr. Tancredi telling nurse Katie that a piece of fibre that she had removed from Michael’s skin during the operation, came from a guard’s uniform. Michael, back in his prison cell, discovers in the mirror that a part of his tattoo has been burnt off. The map that detailed his route from the psych ward to the infirmary–that is vital to the escape–is now gone.

Summary:
The escape team realizes that Michael’s plan has failed. After a futile attempt to break the newly replaced pipe, the pole that they were using to break the pipe snaps into two instead. As the broken half of the pole drops to the floor, a guard hears the noise. The escape team hides as the C.O. walks in. After he leaves, the team sneaks back out to the guard’s break room.

Captain Bellick, about to go off shift, checks in on them. Westmoreland, being older, doesn’t make the trip in time. The others say they can’t clean out the mold overnight. After insulting them, Bellick then instructs the other guards to take them back to their cells. He suddenly realizes that they were a member short. He goes back in, but finds Westmoreland in the room, crouched down tying his shoelaces. The team are sent back to their cells.

Sucre and Westmoreland console Michael by telling him not to worry about them and that Lincoln would know about Michael trying to help him. Westmoreland also expresses sorrow that his brother will have a few weeks of torture - the waiting for death is worse than death. It turns out that if there is a system failure of the electric chair, the inmate gets a three week reprieve when the system is being repaired. Michael takes that as salvation rather than torture. He goes into the tunnels, and with food as bait, captures a rat.

Tweener and Bellick are conversing. Tweener is dipping his french fries into a milkshake, just like Bellick. Bellick wants information. Tweener doesn’t have it, but when Bellick charges him $100 for the hamburgers and other food, Tweener reveals the conversation between Michael and Westmoreland regarding the procedure of the chair. Bellick says they are even.

Bellick orders another check on the electric chair, and it fails. Upon further check, they find a rat has short-circuited the chair. The techs say they will have to make a report, but Bellick bullies them into just changing the fuse and forgetting the technical problem. Later, the system works perfectly as Michael watches in horror as the lights flickers.

Michael gets final visitation with his brother. Lincoln does not want to talk about the appeal and he tells Michael that the execution is going to happen. He doesn’t want to think about it. Defeated, Michael consents. They play a game of gin as Lincoln eats the blueberry pancakes he had requested as his final meal.

Meanwhile, Nick and Veronica appeal to the judge for Lincoln’s exoneration but is denied. After Michael’s plea, Dr. Tancredi goes to speak with Veronica and Nick. She then takes with her the information they gave her to ask her father, the Governor, to review Lincoln’s case. The governor promptly tells her that the inmates are trying to use her and that being strict on crime is what he was elected for. Knowing that she couldn’t convince her father any further, Sara tells him to review the information she just gave him and pretend that it didn’t come from her.

As the Warden and several guards walk with Lincoln to his execution, the governor calls. After a tense minute, as Michael, Lincoln, Veronica and Sara exchange glances, the warden reveals that the execution will go ahead. As the governor hangs up, the Vice President appears behind him and tells him that his decision will not go unnoticed.

The group proceed to the death chamber. Surprisingly, Bellick shows some compassion and allows Veronica over the yellow line to hug Lincoln before he is taken into the chamber. In a heartbreaking moment, Veronica tells Lincoln that she has loved him since the moment she first saw him. At the warden’s order, Bellick uncuffs Michael, who takes his turn to hug the brother he is about to lose. Tears roll down Michael’s eyes as his brother is led into the death chamber. The episode closes with Lincoln facing the chair.

Summary:
Abruzzi is flown out of the prison to a hospital after his throat was cut with a razorblade by T-Bag. With Lincoln now in the SHU, the five remaining inmates discuss what is going to happen. Michael wants to postpone the breakout until he finds a way to get Burrows out of solitary confinement in the 32 hours until his execution. However, the other four conspirators want to go as soon as possible. It becomes clear to Michael that the escape is happening that night.

After praying for Burrows with the prison priest, Michael gives a crucifix necklace to the priest asking to send it to Burrows. The priest agrees and gives it to Burrows in confinement. Burrows finds that the crucifix has been tampered with, and after pulling it apart he discovers a hollow area in the back of the cross contains a small black pill, along with a tiny piece of paper that read “EAT 8:10″. Michael had hidden it previously in order to get Lincoln into the infirmary. Lincoln takes the pill at 8:10 pm, 50 minutes before the breakout, and suddenly collapses onto the ground, grasping his stomach. The guards promptly deliver him to the infirmary and Dr. Tancredi tells him that she believes he had food poisoning.

The five escapees use the series of pipes to crawl to the vent underneath the infirmary, where Michael’s group needs to enter to proceed to the wire that they must all crawl across to escape. However, when they arrive at the maintenance room which was right beneath the infirmary, Michael realizes the pipe which he had corroded previously, had been replaced. The team stare at Michael and the pipe which now effectively prevents the team from escaping through the infirmary. After a struggle to break the pipe with the help of leverage and Lincoln, trying to push down onto the pipe from above, the group is unsuccessful. Dumbfounded and distressed, Michael says “We’re not getting out of here.” The episode ends with T-Bag pulling out a shank and threatening Michael, “Unfortunately pretty, that ain’t an option.”

Summary:
C-Note overhears Michael and Lincoln talking about how they have too many people in the escape team. He proceeds to tell the others that one of them had to go while T-Bag was outside. Michael explains that this is due to the time restriction. The party has decided unanimously that T-Bag has to be kicked out. Knowing that they would be ganging up on him, T-Bag notifies the group that he has an “insurance policy”, and has told that person on the outside about the plan. If he doesn’t call the person 5 minutes before and 20 minutes after the escape, the person will call Henry Pope and inform him of the breakout. Abruzzi calls on his mob friends to kidnap this “insurance policy” for a few days until the escape is over. However, the kidnap goes wrong and they end up killing him and his young child.

Veronica and LJ are at the hospital waiting for Nick’s surgery. LJ notices in the newspaper that his mother’s funeral is taking place today at 2pm. He leaves without telling Veronica. When he arrives at the cemetery, LJ looks around before approaching his mother’s coffin. Agent Hale watches LJ from a distance as LJ cries on the coffin. Hale is saddened by LJ’s grief. When LJ returns to the hospital, Hale follows him to the room where Veronica was sitting by Nick’s side. He watches from behind as LJ cries on Veronica’s shoulders. Disobeying Kellerman’s order to kill them, Hale walks away.

Meanwhile, Bellick confronts Michael in the infirmary just before his shot, and says that he has learned what was the contraband that Nika had given him. Bellick continues to try to provoke him by demeaning Nika until Sara stops him. After Bellick leaves, Michael tries to explain to Sara about Nika; how he married her so she can get her green card. Sara says that she saw Nika coming out of the conjugal, to which Michael replies that it was just business. Without another word, Sara leaves after administering Michael’s insulin shot.

Michael makes his final preparation for his escape. He needs to find a way to get through the grate that is 20 feet above the pipe which he just crawled through. Michael uses water to fill up the entire space between the pipe and the grate. With the rope and suit he took last time from the personal items storage room, Michael proceeds to swim up to the grate which is in a maintenance room directly beneath the infirmary. He ties the rope to the grate, and releases the suit which he used to block the water from draining. Michael walks up to the pipe which he had corroded and looks up to see Dr. Tancredi cleaning her hands. The final route to the infirmary is now ready.

Abruzzi’s henchman tells him that he had completed the job but he had also accidentally killed the man’s son who was about five years old. Abruzzi is shocked by this and is filled with a guilty conscience. In his cell, Abruzzi is disillusioned as he stares continuously at the rust stain on the wall, envisioning the picture of Jesus Christ’s crown of thorns. Abruzzi asks for forgiveness from the priest and begins to pray. Angered by the death of his cousins, T-Bag cuts Abruzzi’s throat with a razorblade after a confrontation in which Abruzzi gave up an opportunity to kill T-bag. Abruzzi lies on the floor, grasping his throat with blood everywhere.

As the team waits for Michael to climb through the hole, C.O. Geary suddenly comes and wants to check on the status. Lincoln blocks his entry after Westmoreland told him to stall Geary as Michael still hasn’t appeared. Lincoln ends up in solitary confinement after punching Geary in a desperate attempt to keep the escape plan a secret.

Summary:
After Michael and Abruzzi successfully set up Philly Falzone in a fruitless raid in Canada, Abruzzi is back in charge of prison industries. However, C-Note barges his way in, telling them that he knows about the hole to the escape route. He is accepted as a break member due to his knowledge of the plan. Meanwhile Westmoreland, who previously rejected Michael’s invitation into the team, finds out his daughter is dying of cancer, but he can’t see her until her funeral. He wants to see her alive once again, but Warden Pope says the law makes it impossible. Westmoreland then decides to join the escape team.

Michael’s conjugal visit with his wife shocks the other escape team members. Nika, Michael’s wife married Michael two days before he robbed the bank, the crime for which he was sentenced to Fox River for. She gives him a credit card and promptly asks him why he would need a credit card in prison. As Sara walks down the corridor, she sees Michael hugging Nika after her visit. She turns and walks off in the opposite direction.

When Westmoreland tells Michael that he wants join the team, Michael is skeptical and tells him that every member of the escape team has to bring something to the table. Westmoreland offers his money and admits that he is D.B. Cooper who hijacked a plane and got away with 1.5 million. He proves to Michael by handing him a unique $100 bill which had the same serial number as the hijacked money.

Quinn, the agent sent by “the Company” watches Veronica and Nick from outside their cabin. He takes a piece of sandpaper and rubs it against his face. When Nick answers the door, Quinn acts like he’s hurt and Nick lets him into the cabin. Quinn shoots Nick at the back and warns Veronica and LJ to stay put. He ties Veronica and LJ up and puts them into separate rooms. He then proceeds to interrogate them. Quinn tries to pin the blame on each of them as he goes to them individually and persuades them to tell him about what they know about the Burrows’ case and who else knows about it.

The next part of Michael’s escape plan involves the credit card Nika gave him. However, it isn’t a credit card; it’s keycard. Michael rips off the front and back to reveal a plain white card with a magnetic stripe. Flashbacks are shown of Michael gaining access to the prison security system manual, and an encoder. With that data, he encoded the card with the master keycode to the prison personal items storeroom. Michael sneaks off at night to use the card to enter the room. He finds out that his watch is missing. Westmoreland tells him that the guards sometimes steal the personal items of the prisoners. Michael finds out that C.O. Geary had stolen it.

After Tweener expressed his interest in joining the P.I. team, Michael uses this to ask Tweener to steal his watch back for him. Upon the return of his watch, Michael attached it to his tape recorder and hid the device in the grass, right outside the infirmary. As Michael digs his device back out the following day, Sara walks by and asks him if he’s married. Michael nonchalantly replies that his marriage is not a marriage in the traditional sense of the word. Sara tells him that from now on, their relationship will be strictly doctor patient only. Furthermore, she says that there are more questions than answers about him. Michael stops her from walking away by saying that there are answers. Sara turns and walks away.

Meanwhile, Veronica breaks free from her plastic bindings and knocks Quinn with her chair. She runs to get LJ and Nick. However, Quinn comes out and confronts Veronica. LJ pushes Quinn into the well. Veronica, Nick and LJ drive away from the cabin. Later when Kellerman and Hale come to find Quinn, they cover the well and leave Quinn down in the well to die.

Captain Bellick suddenly remembers where he had seen Nika before. He goes to a strip joint, and threatens her to tell him what she gave Michael during the conjugal visit.

Michael and Sucre listens to the tape recorder that Michael had dug out. The device was used to record the sound of the guard’s keys. Michael finds out that the guards take 18 minutes to complete their round. That means that they had 18 minutes to get over the wall. He reasoned that the bars outside the infirmary windows required 5 minutes to remove. This allowed the the team only 13 minutes to cross the wire and escape over the wall. Furthermore, with each member taking 2 minutes to cross unnoticed, Michael calculated that only 6 people can go.

However, they have seven in their escape team. One of them has to go.

Summary:
After John Abruzzi loses his power to control the prison industries (PI) when Philly Falzone ceases to pay Captain Brad Bellick, Michael Scofield and the other escape team inmates watch helplessly as PI is taken over. Abruzzi tells Michael the only way out is to tell his gang he still has control - and that means giving up Otto Fibonacci to them. Michael doesn’t want to give up an innocent man’s life, but ultimately hatches a plan with Abruzzi.

Meanwhile C-Note has noticed the disposition of cement from the break team. He offers the new head of P.I. $150 a month to work with them. It is accepted. C-Note then uses his brains to figure out the escape plan. Once he finds the loose cement in the shack, he knows of the escape plan.

Falzone visits Michael and Abruzzi in prison, and demands to know how Michael figured out the location. Michael explains that he did his homework - before they go into witness protection, they are in the custody of a local sheriff. Only one was out of town during Fibonacci’s custody, and he made a lot of calls to his wife, which Michael intercepted. Falzone pays Bellick to restore Abruzzi to PI.

Falzone and his men go after Fibonacci, who they believe is in Canada. However, the RCMP are waiting for them. Fibonacci picks up a copy of a Kansas newspaper in the meantime. Abruzzi confronts Michael, who asks him how he feels. Both men are pleased with the results.

During a scene in the C.O. break room, Michael, Lincoln, Abruzzi and Sucre reveals where they want to go after they have escaped. Abruzzi says Sardinia, Sucre says he wishes to get back to Maricruz, and Michael quietly says to Lincoln that together they will go to Darien Gap, Panama to live and perhaps run a scuba shop.

Reynolds calls in a man who calls himself Quinn, who takes Kellerman and Hale off the job. Quinn kills Veronica’s ex-boyfriend Sebastian, and tracks down her location.

Summary:
Seth “Cherry” Hoffner approaches Michael for help but his request is cut short by T-Bag who interjects and subtly threatens Michael to stay out of his business. Fearing for his escape plan, Michael concedes. When Seth asks him for help the second time, Michael turns his back on him.

The team continues to work on pounding the concrete floor in the storage room during PI. Sucre worries over how they are going to dispose of the concrete fragments. Michael tells them to hide the fragments one piece at a time. They take the pieces out, littering and hiding them all over the yard. After Michael walks off, C-Note picks up one of the concrete fragments half hidden in the yard. As Michael and Sucre walk back to their cells, Seth jumps off from the second tier and hangs himself. Michael looks horrified.

Michael tells Lincoln of Seth’s suicide and how he felt responsible for his death. Lincoln tells him that it’s not his fault and that he had to keep the escape plan safe. Michael relays that their mother taught them better, “When a man is down, you give them your hand.” Meanwhile, a new inmate, David “Tweener” Apolskis tries to fit in. However, neither the black or white inmates want to associate with him. T-Bag uses this opportunity to intimidate Tweener and suggests that he could be his new “friend”. Tweener tells T-Bag to stay away from him. T-Bag is annoyed by his noncompliance.

Veronica and Nick go to New Glarus to Nick’s father’s secluded cabin to hide. They then proceed to find the wife of Terrence Steadman. She tells them that if she didn’t know for sure that Lincoln Burrows had killed her husband, then one of the investors in his company would have, since the company was worth half a billion dollars. On the streets of Chicago, LJ keeps running to evade Agents Kellerman and Hale. Lincoln is worried for his son’s safety and pleads to Warden Pope to let him look for his son. Since Lincoln is on death row, the warden declines. LJ phones Veronica and Nick, who tell him to meet them at Lake Mercer. However, Veronica knew Kellerman was tracking LJ so she then text messages him to meet them at New Glarus. LJ joins Nick and Veronica at their hideout and send words to Lincoln via a falsified school report where the last words of each line reveal the message that he is alright and is now with Veronica.

Dr. Sara Tancredi inquires Michael’s insurance company about the cost of his medical treatments at Fox River. She finds out that he had psychiatric insurance. Sara visits his psychiatrist who informs her of Michael’s psychiatric condition. Michael has low latent inhibition and low self-worth. The psychiatrist tells her that Michael’s condition coupled with his high I.Q., explains why he goes to such extraordinary lengths to help other people. After Sara learns this, she becomes more perplexed by who Michael is.

Michael notices Tweener’s distress and decides to intervene. He hits T-Bag in the shin and warns him to stay away from Tweener. T-Bag again threatens him that he will tell the guards about the escape but Michael rebuts that he wants to escape just as much as the rest of them. T-Bag backs down. Later, when Tweener provokes him, T-Bag keeps on walking and eyes Michael angrily. Tweener, unaware of Michael’s intervention, relaxes at T-Bag’s retreat. Lincoln smiles at Michael proudly.

Abruzzi loses his control of PI after Philly Falzone ceased all payments to Bellick. Abruzzi simultaneously loses rank in the prison. Falzone tells Abruzzi that it’s because he still hasn’t found out about where witness protection has hidden Fibonacci. The team consequently loses their P.I. and becomes anxious about the hole being discovered by the new P.I. team.

Summary:
Michael finds out a storage room, fundamental to the escape because it is the only building directly over the pipes, has been converted into a break room for the guards, and the team must find a way to set it on fire so that Abruzzi can get them assigned to PI work there. They have to convince Westmoreland, who is a trustee (and thus has access to the break room freely), to help them burn it down.

Michael approaches him with his cat (who ran away during the riots), but he refuses to help. Meanwhile, Bellick starts an investigation into Bob’s death, and upon hearing rumors that he died outside of Westmoreland’s cell, he goes to question him. Westmoreland doesn’t say anything, afraid of being considered a “snitch”. Bellick tells him that if he doesn’t get an answer before he leaves the cell, their friendship is over. Westmoreland still doesn’t cooperate, and Bellick pets Marilyn, saying “…nice cat.” A while later, Westmoreland returns to his cell and finds Marilyn dead on his bunk, and spots Bellick looking down on his cell from the second level.

The next day, when Westmoreland goes to deliver the coffee to the break room, he looks at a pack of Bellick’s cigarettes and his lighter. Meanwhile, while Michael and Lincoln do PI work, a fire erupts in the break room. Michael approaches Westmoreland and thanks him, but Westmoreland responds with “I didn’t do it for you.” The group begins by breaking through a drain in the floor and enlarging the hole so that they can fit through it.

Veronica and Nick are nearly killed by an explosion in Veronica’s apartment, and go into hiding, because Kellerman and Hale believe they were killed. LJ’s mother and step-father are killed by Kellerman and Hale, and they plant evidence in LJ’s house that implicates him in the murders.

At the end of the episode, the mysterious woman Kellerman and Hale have been talking with throughout the previous episodes is revealed to be the Vice President, Caroline Reynolds, the sister of the man Lincoln was framed for killing.

Summary:
Michael (Wentworth Miller) realizes that to complete the digging job inside the walls, he needs to spend a good block of time there, which has been proving difficult as he has to keep coming back to his cell to make count. After explaining this to Sucre (Amaury Nolasco), Sucre admits that “there are only three certain things in life. Death, taxes and count” and that the only time count doesn’t take place is during a lockdown. Michael uses his access to the inside of the walls to turn off the air conditioning. The prisoners suffer in the heat, leading T-Bag (Robert Knepper) to start a fight with a guard who then initiates a lock-down while some of the prisoners are out of their cells. The prisoners riot and break into the prison cell control room, in which T-Bag opens all the cells and then finds a set of keys, giving him and the rioters access to the entire prison.

When news of the riot reaches the sick bay the prisoners there also riot. After taking out the guard, they trap Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) in the adjacent room. Michael uses a tracing of a devil from his tattoo to provide the coordinates (calculated using Hooke’s law, also referred in this episode as hooker’s law) needed to collapse part of the wall. This is vital to his escape plan as the wall prevents the team from entering a pipe that will take them to the infirmary. Michael notices Dr. Tancredi’s plight on CCTV and goes to rescue her through an air duct. Lincoln is ambushed by loose prisoners and the rookie guard escorting him is taken hostage by T-Bag. The guard is thrown against the sink in Michael and Sucre’s cell, which parts from the wall to reveal the hole that Michael has dug. T-Bag is about to proclaim the discovery to the rest of the prisoners when Abruzzi quiets him. Sucre is sent to finish breaking through the wall.

Meanwhile, Westmoreland stumbles upon a battered Lincoln and alerts him of the situation. A distraught Lincoln demands to know where Michael is. When Westmoreland is unable to answer, another prisoner named Turk steps forth to lead Lincoln to Michael.

The prisoners riot and break into the prison cell control room, in which T-Bag opens all the cells and then finds a set of keys, giving him and the rioters access to the entire prison.

When news of the riot reaches the sick bay the prisoners there also riot. After taking out the guard, they trap Dr. Sara Tancredi (Sarah Wayne Callies) in the adjacent room. Michael uses a tracing of a devil from his tattoo to provide the coordinates (calculated using Hooke’s law, also referred in this episode as hooker’s law) needed to collapse part of the wall. This is vital to his escape plan as the wall prevents the team from entering a pipe that will take them to the infirmary. Michael notices Dr. Tancredi’s plight on CCTV and goes to rescue her through an air duct. Lincoln is ambushed by loose prisoners and the rookie guard escorting him is taken hostage by T-Bag. The guard is thrown against the sink in Michael and Sucre’s cell, which parts from the wall to reveal the hole that Michael has dug. T-Bag is about to proclaim the discovery to the rest of the prisoners when Abruzzi quiets him. Sucre is sent to finish breaking through the wall.

Meanwhile, Westmoreland stumbles upon a battered Lincoln and alerts him of the situation. A distraught Lincoln demands to know where Michael is. When Westmoreland is unable to answer, another prisoner named Turk steps forth to lead Lincoln to Michael.
